A fashion designer will generally have to work on three categories - men's wear, women's wear and children's wear. These are further divided into specialized categories like casual wear, formal wear, party wear, evening wear, sports wear, maternity wear, to name a few. Depending on the manner of production, it is classified as prêt and haute couture. Prêt is ready-to-wear fashion that is produced in bulk, whereas haute couture is one-of-it's-kind, which is generally for the upper class.
